So maybe I over did it a little....

I have had a super busy week with work this week. I had lots of travel and lots to look forward to! Only maybe I need to slow down just a little bit. My crazy week started with a 6 am flight to Philadelphia to go to our Corporate Headquarters in Coopersburg, PA. These early flights are quite a commitment because I live an hour from the airport. So if I wake up at 3 am, get out the door by 4 am, I can get to the airport by 5 am, just in time to catch the 6 am flight. And that is just how the week started... I had two days full of meetings in PA, then drove Thursday night back to Philly since my flight out Wednesday was another 6 am flight. I did get to meet up with some great friends on Tuesday night for dinner which was a lot of fun.
I got back to my hotel (right next to the airport) and again woke up about 3:45 am to return the rental, get checked in and onto the 6 am flight to Cincinnati. I got into Cinci around 8 am and did a full day of sales calls with our Lutron rep there then got BACK to the airport to catch a plane to Houston. My flight was supposed to leave about 5 pm but didn't end up leaving until about 7pm. I was bummed because I was supposed to get to meet up with one of my great college friends and go to dinner. On the bright side, since it was only 9:40 pm when I was driving to my hotel I did get to make a stop at Freebirds and get the best burrito in the world with 20 min to spare until closing!
Unfortunately that burrito became the highlight of my trip to Houston. The next morning I woke up and was a bit nauseated which has been pretty normal for the past few weeks, only usually once I get some breakfast in me I get better and better and better and feel great by mid afternoon and though the evening. That did NOT happen this time! I continued to get sick all day and finally went back to the hotel and tried to sleep it off. I woke up later that evening feeling okay but not great... or even good for that matter. I had a wonderful friend Misty, who lives in Houston stop by the hotel to see me which was great since I was totally bummed that I was missing out on seeing all my friends and eating all the good mexican food Houston has to offer!
Again I went to bed and again I had to wake up this morning for a 5:30 flight from Houston back to Columbia. As soon as I woke up I knew it was not going to be a good day. I was pretty much sick the entire way home. I called on my layover and got an appointment to go to the doctor on base. I drove straight from the airport to base and got seen by our Squadron's flight doc, whose call sign is Smokin'. She was great! She pretty much took one look at me and decided to put me on an IV to get some fluids back in my body and administered some anti nausea medicine. I have never had an IV before so it was a first for me, but being pregnant I know it won't be the last. I was already feeling much better by the time I left. I went home and pretty much fell straight asleep.
Thank goodness for modern medicine! I can't imagine being that miserably sick for one more minute! What an overwhelming week! I think I will take it a little slower from now on.

Don't Drink the Water

It seems that there must be something in the water. Right before I found out I was pregnant I was talking to my good friend from work, Hagen, and he told me the great news that his wife Kim was expecting. Hagen and I started working at Lutron at the same time and have been long time friends. We have always jokingly wagered on who would be the first out of our group to have a baby. I was the first one married and Hagen ALWAYS told me that I was going to be the first one pregnant. Turns out he and Kim beat us by 8 weeks! Congrats Hagen and Kim........

Kim, Hagen, and I visiting their home in NJ

.............Right after I found out that I was pregnant we went home to Texas. I got to visit one of my best friends Natalie and she told me she was pregnant!! Natalie is due only about 3 weeks ahead of me so after all the experiences we have shared growing up together we will get to share this special time too! I had to laugh because before she told me we both really wanted donuts so we went to the donut shop and picked some up. We were sitting on the couch pigging out when she told me the great news. Can't you just imagine the scene... two pregnant ladies sitting on the couch pigging out on donuts. We had a good laugh! Congrats Natalie and Rob...............

Natalie and Kimber- We both just surprised each other!

............ Then we returned back home from Texas and got back into the swing of things. Just a few days later I got a call and text from Kendall that announced she was pregnant too!!!! Kendall is one of my closest friends and South Carolina and she is due only about 10 days after me! It was a great surprise! The funniest thing about Kendall is that we have unknowingly shared many experiences together. When Brad and I moved out of our home in Ohio, our friends told us about the nice couple that moved in named Howie and Kendall. Then when we were going through the home buying process in South Carolina My realtor kept telling me about this other nice Air Force couple that she was selling a home to also. Yup- Howie and Kendall again! Then when Howie and Brad ended up in the same Squadron at work we finally got to meet the Turners! After all of those coincidences we are sharing this one together too! Congrats Howie and Kendall..................

Kimber and Kendall- Enjoying our fruity (non-alcoholic) drinks!

................ Then only a couple of days after we got to celebrate Kendall's news we got a call from Katie. Katie's husband also works with Brad. Katie needed to know how to get a pregnancy test on base. Sure enough, a few hours later we got to celebrate Katie's good news! Katie is due March 12, only about 2 weeks after me. Katie already has a beautiful daughter Bryn, so not only do we get to go through this together but she also is going to be a great resource for Kendall and I. Congrats Brandon and Katie!.............

Kimber, Katie, and Big Sister Bryn (I was having A LOT of morning sickness that day)

...........................I also found out right around the same time that my friend Laura was pregnant also! She is due only a couple of weeks before me. Laura was my first friend in Sumter. I moved to South Carolina all by myself not knowing anyone. Our mutual friend Christy was able to introduce us by e-mail. She was so wonderful to me as I had to move into our home in South Carolina . She and her family helped me in so many ways I can't even list them all! This is Laura's third pregnancy and she is also a wealth of knowledge! I have already started picking her brain on all things pregnancy! Congrats Chris and Laura............

............When I posted my blog and sent it out to all of you I got such a great response from everyone. Lots of people left us messages of congratulations and one of my friends I made while I was living in Texas in 2007, Chione, not only congratulated me but also let me know that she is also expecting and only a couple of weeks behind me. We had lots of fun together in our small group at Gateway and Chione always shared my love of crafty things. Congrats Keller and Chione!

I am so thankful to have so many great friends to share this wonderful experience with. It has already been so helpful to have people to bounce things off of and share a laugh about our weird cravings interesting body changes. I can't imagine anything better. But beware ladies... there is something in the water!

What is a Kumquat?

I have signed up for a website that will send me e-mails every week and tell me what is going on with the baby and what size it is this week. The baby started out the size of a poppy seed and when I got my e-mail this week it said at week 10 the baby is about the size of a kumquat. Who the heck knows what a kumquat looks like? So I had to look it up- thank goodness for my best friend Google! I found a good pic below to show you the approx size of the baby this week. It is a little over an inch long and weighs less than a quarter of an ounce. I guess there is no good excuse for extra pregnancy weight yet, huh??

It is amazing how much my body has already changed considering how small the baby still is. That little thing can make me look different, feel different, and make me very sick and tired!!! I don't think anyone can tell the differences yet but me, but I definitely can!!! I promise once things get more obvious I will post pics. There is just not much to see yet (thank goodness)!

Funny Story

I have had a lot of people ask me how I told Brad when I found out I was pregnant. It is actually a pretty funny story so I thought I would share it with all. After I started having symptoms and thought I could be pregnant I took "a few" pregnancy tests and they all came out negative. I thought that these things are pretty expensive and I was obviously not pregnant and I needed to stop wasting my money so I resolved to buy no more. Not 48 hours later the symptoms resumed stronger than ever so on the way home from a friends house I asked Brad to stop by the drugstore so we could get just one more. He obliged and we went home with one more package in hand. Since the previous tests had all come out negative I thought the best thing to do would be to wait and take the test in the morning so the hormones that trigger the test would be at their strongest. So we went about our evening and tucked into bed.
Around 2am I woke up after having a very distinct dream that I took the pregnancy test and it was positive. I knew I wanted to wait to take the test in the morning so I rolled over and attempted to go back to sleep. The only problem was that I had to go... and when I say had to go, I mean there was going to be no waiting. So now the dilemma... take the test now? Take the test in the morning? What to do, what to do?? I figured there were two in the box so I might as well go for it now. Well in my delirious 2 am state I went in the bathroom and took the test and low and behold the plus sign appeared. It definitely made me do a double take because I always think the second line is appearing only to realize my eyes are playing tricks on me. Only this time they weren't!
So now another dilemma.... Should I wake Brad up? Should I let him sleep and tell him in the morning?? Well I decided to be a good wife and let him sleep and we could celebrate the news in the morning. Well of course that didn't work. Try to go back to sleep after learning your whole life is about to change. Doesn't work too well! So I very gently woke Brad up and he asked what I needed. I said "Ummm I am pretty sure we are pregnant now" to which he replied "What makes you think that?" I said "well I had a positive test" "What? Now????" I then launched into the story about the dream and having to pee and not knowing what to do until he interrupted me and hugged and congratulated me. Then he rolled back over and went to sleep. I guess for some life altering news doesn't have the same effect, haha! It will certainly be a memorable story! This picture below is the 2 am test! Definitely positive!

The next morning after things soaked in a bit we decided to take another "just in case". The hormones weren't quite as strong this time but there was definitely a faint line. We were sure now! A trip to the base hospital later that day for a blood test sealed the deal.

About two weeks later I woke up in the morning having another really strong dream. I sent my friend Kendall a text that said "I know you're going to hate me... but I had a dream last night that you were pregnant!" To which she replied "You're right I do hate you. I think the dream must mean you are pregnant." Little did she know I was pregnant and a few weeks later she would also announce she was pregnant! We both laughed about that dream and from our calculations we think that dream was almost at the exact time she conceived! I will let you know if I start dreaming about any of you!!

Baby's First Trip to Vegas

Brad has been in Las Vegas the past couple of weeks for work. Since we figured this will be one of the last opportunities for me to just get up and go we decided that I would come out for the weekend. Even though the trip was super short we still really enjoyed spending time together.

Mom and Dad in Vegas
The guys had a pretty demanding schedule the past few weeks but luckily I had some great girlfriends come out so I had someone to play with while the guys were at work. We had a fun few days playing in Vegas!
