What's this?

What's this you might ask? This would be a picture of a wide eyed baby who slept 10 HOURS last night! It is funny because I had just read that at 3 months old your baby is physically capable of sleeping through the night for stretches like this. I literally thought, "oh well... we just aren't quite there yet." I was still waking him before I went to bed to nurse then he would get up again between 2-5 am depending on the night. Well I am not too naive to think this could be a fluke, but we will keep our fingers crossed!

Grabbing, Rolling, Playing, and Posing!

The past week has been SO much fun! Micah is really going from a newborn to an infant and has been doing lots of new things. I think we have seen him do something completely new pretty much every day this week. He started grabbing things recently but at first just grabbed things randomly or mostly that were near his hands. This week we introduced him to toys and he really had a great time playing with them. It is a lot of fun to watch him discover new things and begin to interact with them.

Micah started rolling over from front to back a few weeks ago and although he still does it, he is selective about when he wants to exert enough effort to actually perform this feat. This week he started showing signs of getting closer to turning over from back to front. He has started to roll over to his side regularly during play time. He hasn't gotten any farther than that yet but I believe our stationary days are numbered....

Another very exciting first he has had this week is laughing. He still doesn't do it often but if you get the tickle spot under his chin just right, or raise him up and down in the air when he is in the perfect mood he will start to giggle and squeal. This is probably one of the most fun things for us to watch him learn to do! I will definitely post a video when we are able to catch it because a baby's laugh is just one of those things that will melt your heart!

I had to laugh when my mother-in-law told me that Micah must love getting his picture taken because he is always looking straight at the camera. He does humor me for all of my "photo shoots", but the truth is I just keep snapping pic after pic and then pick out the few that actually came out well. For example for the post with pics I did yesterday I think I posted about ten. I actually took 86. So that tells you about how good I am at taking pictures, haha! We took a few more pics this morning. He has started to sit up with much less support so I thought it would be fun to get him on the chair. In the midst of the shoot he began to slide down. I kept snapping photos, and although they were a little blurry because of the movement, the pose ended up to be priceless!

3 Months Old!

Micah-

You are three months old today and every day just gets better and better. You have always been such a joy in our lives but as you grow and develop your personality we just fall more in love with you each day. Every day we get to see more smiles and we treasure these special moments as you learn about the world around you.

The theme for this month must be "new". You had so many new experiences and almost every day you amaze us by mastering a new skill. At the beginning of this month you had your first trip to the beach. We took a trip to beautiful, sunny, Florida to visit our dear friends the Vest's. Outside of our family they probably love you more than anyone! Jason and Danielle were like a second Mom and Dad and Kate and Elijah were just like a fun older brother and sister. You loved playing with them and they could keep you entertained for hours watching their silly antics! You gave them a very rare bunch of huge smiles from your sleepy state first thing we got there. After that the smiles never stopped. We attempted many times to go to the beach but for the most part the weather didn't cooperate. Fortunately we got one beautiful day. We got you suited up and we hit the beach. You LOVED the sound of the waves, and although the sun was a little too bright for you and you spent most of your time under the umbrella you did take a very sound nap on the white sand! We were all sad to leave Florida when the time came. Another new experience this month was Baseball! We got to go to two games! You had fun cheering on the team and you must be a good luck charm because the home team won both times! The first time we went you couldn't quite make it and fell asleep by the 4th inning. The second time though you were the life of the party and stayed wide awake until the end. Needless to say we were pooped when we got home and luckily you and I both got to sleep in!

You have developed physically so much this month. At only 9 weeks old you rolled over from your front to your back for the first time. The first time this happened we were on the bed and you were on a slight incline so I thought it might have been a fluke but I set you on a nice flat surface and you amazed me and did it again. At that point you didn't much enjoy being on your tummy so I think that gave you just enough incentive to learn to roll. I was so amazed at how quickly you mastered this skill! Just in the last few days you have shown signs of getting close to rolling over the other way, front to back too. You can make it over on your side but you aren't quite convinced you want to go all the way. You have also worked those arm muscles and gotten rather good a pushing yourself up when placed on your tummy. It still takes quite a bit of effort and tires you out but you look so cute while doing it! The most recent physical development is sitting up. You can now sit up (when assisted) and hold your torso and neck up very straight and supported. You are really enjoying this new perspective being able to be upright without having to stand, although you still love working those legs too!

You are becoming such a playful kid! We love spending time with you singing, playing games, and introducing you to new toys. You mastered reaching and grabbing this month and you use this to grab your toys. The first toy we gave you was a stuffed animal doggie on the top and a blanket on the bottom. You loved it. You grabbed it and put it in your mouth and then swung it from side to side. You have a couple of toys that you like to play with now and even have fun swinging around your burp cloths when I leave them within your reach. Bath time has also become playtime. Up to this month you weren't too sure about that warm tub of water but this month you decided it was pretty nice to have your own little hot tub. You like to wiggle and splash in the water as I give you your bath. We love this new playful side of your personality.

Friends and even strangers comment on how wide open your eyes always are. We know it is just you taking in this big new world. As always we are amazed by how you grow and change. Those eyes take in everything. I even catch you sometimes watching TV these days, although you always much prefer Mommy or Daddy time. This has been a month to remember!

Love,
Mom and Dad

Cuter EVERY Day!

Micah is 12 weeks old today and he just gets way cuter every single day! He has just become such a happy, easy going, baby! One of my favorite times of the day is hanging out in the morning with him. After he gets that full night of rest and a full tummy he is just so happy and playful! We sit on the floor every morning and play for about an hour together. Here are some cute diaper pics from this morning.

Lots of catching up!

We have been busy, busy since getting home from Alabama. Brad finished SOS, an Air Force Leadership School for Captains, and we headed back to South Carolina last Friday. We LOVED all of the family time we were able to have in Alabama. Micah loves spending time with his Daddy! The weekend was spent getting unpacked and celebrating Brad's Birthday! We had a great time grilling out and Brad is going to pick out some studly new sunglasses for a birthday present this weekend.
On Monday we transitioned form a great weekend to a less than thrilling day. Micah had his first set of shots first thing in the morning. He really did very well considering he had two shots and had to drink some very unpleasant medicine. Later that afternoon the day got even better when Mom got to go get a root canal. Both Mommy and Baby survived the day with minimal pain and tears. It gives a whole new meaning to having a case of the Mondays.

The rest of the week has been much better! We have just been hanging out, getting chores done, and catching up with friends we haven't seen since we have been gone.

This is Micah pre-shots on Monday. He had no clue what he was in for... He did try to charm all of the nurses at his appointment, but he couldn't get out of getting stuck. They all complimented him on how handsome he was! Then the doctor said he was pretty perfect! We love our healthy little baby. He weighed in at 11 lbs 6 oz and was 23 in long. That put in in the 25% for height and weight. He was in the 50th percentile for head circumference. It is that big ol' brain! In the nurses words though, "he isn't scrawny, just petite!"

One of the things that he has recently learned to do is reach out and grab things. He has been able to grab things put into his hand since birth but now he can purposefully take something in his hand. Then it usually goes straight to the mouth! This week I tried giving him one of his toys and he grabbed it and played with it a little... well if you count chewing on it and waving it around a little playing.

Today we got an extra fun surprise when the mailman brought us a package! My dear friend April sent Micah a special little gift. It was wrapped so beautifully I just had to take a pic! We love the little coordinating outfits! Thanks so much! We have been so blessed with all of our friends and family sending us wonderful gifts!

Ahhhhhhh... Sleep!! And the life of the party!

I don't want to brag but we have pretty much the best baby ever! He is so happy and loves to play. He has been doing great at sleeping and has been sleeping from about 10:30 pm - 4 am for the past couple of weeks. Last night though, he slept from 10:30 pm - 7 am! Amazing! I am a whole new woman!

The main reason I think that this happened was that little Micah was the life of the party last night. We went to another Biscuits Baseball game and were really blessed that a local gentleman gave Brads flight and their families tickets to a catered suite at the game! We were definitely living in the lap of luxury. It had an indoor room with comfy chairs and a TV, and an outdoor section with seats to watch the game. We had popcorn, chips and dip, hot dogs, hamburgers, and chicken sandwiches. Yum! Then the dessert cart came and wow... it was a pretty amazing spread of cheesecake, brownies, and cookies! Micah was so excited for all this that despite the fact that he usually goes to bed at around 7:30-8 pm he stayed up hanging out with the guys until 10:30!!! He was wide awake and so happy! Even though he was up for a very long time and really late he didn't even fuss, just hung out and enjoyed our special treat!

Flippin' Out!

I caught the magic on video this morning! There are two videos of him rolling over... in one he has to give it a good long try, in the other he got the hang of it and just flipped right over! What a big boy!

Big First!

In the mornings Micah is so happy when he wakes up that I have started playing in bed with him before I feed him in the morning. This is a great time for us to get tummy time in since he is in such a good mood and he isn't much of a fan of tummy time. The past couple of days I have been flipping him back and forth and today I put him on his tummy and he got his legs up under him, pushed with his arms and turned over! He did it once on an incline, and I thought it was just a fluke so I put him on a flat surface and he almost got it. After a few more trys he did it again! All by himself. What a big strong boy! This is definitely video worthy so I will work on getting the moment captured.

Life is Rough...

Life is rough when you are surrounded by beautiful white sand and emerald green water. We finally got a break from the storms and so we hit the beach!

Beach Bums

On our visit to Florida this weekend we were so excited to go to the beach. I had gotten Micah a super cute swim ensemble last week from Baby Gap and was so excited to get him dressed up in it. Unfortunately the weather didn't really cooperate but we still got to get out and shoot a few pictures. The sand here is amazing it is so white it looks like snow! Destin is beautiful and I am hoping we get to enjoy better weather.

Whatever it takes to be comfortable...

Micah has been mostly napping during the day in his swing. Since we have been traveling we haven't had the swing and so we have been trying to get him to sleep in his crib (or pack 'n play)for nap time. Although he sleeps great in the crib at night for some reason he is not such a big fan during the day. We have been holding strong though and he has been having at least one nap time a day in the crib. When I went to check on him this morning I found him sleeping like this and thought it was pretty funny. I am guessing he won't be much fun to share a bed with, ha ha!

BIG Smiles!

We went to visit some of our best friends this weekend. Micah must have already known how much we love them because he gave them some of the biggest smiles as soon as he saw them. He loved Danielle holding him and Kate and Elijah were so much fun to play with! They loved to ask him "Do you wanna go to the beach?" And he would smile SOOOOO big!
